Description

Oculus Medium cultivated a new way to digitally sculpt in 3D, without needing to using 2D screens. As part of our introduction into an already existing 3D pipeline, we evangelized our product to game studios, independent artists, sculptor influencers, and concept art studios. Tapping professional 3D modelers as our playtest community allowed my team to get feedback directly from our users and deliver value directly back to them. We ended up with a strong community of insanely talented artists sharing their work, and decided to create a regular spotlight series to have them promote it.

Favorite moments included:

  • Built the studio and equipment necessary to broadcast Facebook lives to the Oculus Medium Facebook change, including cameras, lighting, backdrops, audio, and switchers, by coordinating with Facebook Live technicians

  • Booked talent and prepared hosts for specific background of talent, including talking points, notable career achievements, and possible current topics given engagement in Medium channels and sculpting community

  • Drove development of mixed reality features and upgraded green screen in studio, enabling live camera capture integrated with live mixed reality broadcast during sculpting

  • Recruited and handed off management of Spotlights to junior marketing colleague

  • Created livestream raffle, where engagement in the stream enabled entry into lottery to win a 3D printed sculpt by the spotlight artist; Ensured 3D printing and cleaning of sculpt for winner

  • Drove live sculpting gallery at Oculus Connect 4, where 3D artists sculpting for hours at a time in green screen both while being broadcast in mixed reality live to Oculus and Oculus Medium livestream
