OCULUS MEDIUM *
Description
Oculus Medium cultivated a new way to digitally sculpt in 3D, without needing to use 2D screens. The goal was to create more artists, and to empower existing artists to include Medium in their professional pipelines.
In an effort to teach users about how to use both VR and to use a new art tool, I created a tutorial program using our in-Medium camera recording that captured audio, my avatar’s poses, and my sculpture. After writing the tutorial, performing the lesson, and sculpting the example, users could playback the tutorial with two options in VR: (1) Watching the 3D avatar and sculpting in the same space , or (2) Watching the 2D video of the tutorial.
With this methodology, I created 3 versions of the New User Experience, walking new users through using the touch controllers and sculpting with digital clay. Later, I expanded the tutorial program to utilize professional artists teaching their specific techniques on how to sculpt.
Duties included:
Directed, wrote, and performed tutorial lessons for sculpting digitally to distribute in VR with game package, or on social media
Drove feature development and bug fixing for camera and VR recording functionality to keep tutorial production environment stable
Enlist artists to create new tutorials that took advantage of new users or attract new use cases
Conducted ad-hoc user research by giving numerous VR and Medium demos at conferences/ festivals, and incorporating that information into the creation of these tutorials
Monitored analytics to track which tutorials are most useful or how to capture users while on learning journey
